Interesting

This definitely has the potential to be a cool song, but there are a few things standing in the way. First of all, the repetition in this is definitely an issue. Every time there was a buildup, I expected some kind of awesome breakdown or something but it was basically just reverting back to the same bassline-pad combo. Secondly, it seemed like some of the bass patterns were just chaotic without really being musical. I don't really have any suggestions for that, but I think you should definitely look for it. Other than that, this is a great foundation for a song in the future.

PainasaurusRex responds:

I'll look into improving it, thank you for your advice. I'll put it up again if I change it. :D

I Disagree

I think the transitions were fine. I definitely felt a flow through the whole song. However, I do agree that the heavy bass type thing had too much chorus or flanger or something. The cool breakdown starting at 2:58 or so was pretty sweet, you definitely know what you're doing. Congrats on a song well made.

garlagan responds:

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you liked it. Well then I should fix the bass, maybe too much chorus : D

Wow.

I think the instruments really gave it character. I really liked this. The arrangement was excellent, and the mood was definitely captured. I think this will go into my favorites. To be honest, it sounded like Runescape music, and I mean that in the best way possible.

Deluxe489 responds:

I thought several of the instruments sounded bad, but thank you.
And I'll take your word for that :P

Whoah.

Very powerful. I wouldn't be surprised at all to hear this in a movie score. Well, I probably would, since it would either be a FF movie or plagiarism, but you know what I mean. The percussion really emphasizes the "last stand" mood of the song. Oh, god--wait. Did I just hear FL Slayer in there? Oh, come on. Everything was perfect. I know that FL Studio doesn't have a single good guitar sound, but you couldn't have downloaded a better VST for a song this good? That's the only blemish as far as I'm concerned. There's no question that the arrangement is completely accurate, and that the mood is amplified. Great track, dude.

viion responds:

hahah you know whats funny right? I did the guitar in Reason and edited it significantly but I couldnt get the right sound, it sounded too techno in Reason but they had a nice guitar like flickoff sound but the actual strum was rubbish, so I lowered the fake techno guitar, kept the ending of the flick off sound and then placed FL Slayer 2 on top of the techno and transitioned it into the flick off, thought i didnt pretty decent but was that obvious its slayer ey haha. Well it was a long long time ago, if i did it now it'd be a lot different, I wouldnt even use much VST as a lot I could get done by live sound production and then do VST post editing. But would be costly haha.

Sweet

I think the first minute or so is the best. The percussion and synths are fantastic, and KlonoaMAST3R's piano riff is catchy. Later on, it gets a little generic, and then later than that, it gets a little crowded and muddy. The song is great, and I love the feel of it, but I think that you could spend some more time focusing on the rest of the song.

DjKirb responds:

Haha, thanks John. But I'm afraid the original .flp is LONG GONE D:

My old desktop's motherboard burnt. pretty badly too.

Thanks for the review ^^

Interesting.

I think this is decent. Not really what I would consider funk, but catchy nonetheless. I think it sounds like something that might be playing in the background of a Katamari game.

SHADOWFOX2 responds:

If not funk, I'm not really sure what you would consider it at all aside from Katamari BGM
I'm going to stick with funk/hip-hop
It's not a spot on example of back in the day funk music with real time instruments being played
However, it does contain a lot of the elements of funk as well as other genres, so it's stayin'
+ it's too late to change it now anyways

Strange Diagnosis

It seems like you have the exact opposite problem of most artists on this site. You certainly know what you're doing in FL Studio, because all of the synths and effects are perfect, but your musical composition is weak. This has all the elements that a really powerful song should have, and I couldn't help but get a little excited while listening. The only thing is that the tunes are a little bland and they seem to lack structure. I really have no idea what to tell you regarding advice, except that you should keep practicing.

Karlssonffs responds:

Hey m8!

Sry for not responding to you in time, but i also feel like i lack the skill of musical compsition, tho i aim for being better and better, and i hope one day i can get it perfect ;)

Ty very much for your review and ill hope you will stick around and see my other projects in the future :)

Argh.

This would be so much cooler if you added a lot of reverb to the piano. Seriously, that one little thing would improve this song so much. Other than that, the composition seems nice, and the sounds come together well. It's a bit repetitive, and the snare is a little too sharp, but overall I like it.

pitchblak responds:

Appreciate the review man, I may go back and add some reverb to the piano to see what it sounds like.About the snare, well,Im not much of a pro when it comes to drums,I like it though especially compared to some that Ive used in the past. This song sounds like it lost a little bit of its quality when I uploaded it,the original mp3 that I have does sound a little clearer...puzzles me a little bit. Keep Rockin man, thanx for the advice

No!

You have to make this longer. Now. I was just getting all into it. It sounds so good! How could you allow yourself to stop?

DJ-Qwamii responds:

Sure mate! Thanks! It's a WIP. :D

Well...

The composition seems fine, but Slayer is a terrible choice for an instrument. Use any of the many other synths available in FL Studio, or make your own if you know how. I think there was way too much reverb on the piano, and not nearly enough on the drums. Also, this pretty much uses the same melodies and instruments throughout; try adding more varation. This will make the song much more appealing.

ianross responds:

... i didnt use slayer?... i used dark guitar and piano... but i agree i should use more variation... how do u make your own synth? can u do that on the demo version? ill use more instruments on my next composition... im very new to digital music so thankyou for the advice......
