Wow

I'm glad I listened through the whole thing before reviewing. My opinion changed drastically thoughout. I mean, wow. Not only are the drums beyond impressive, the guitars beyond awesome, the flow smooth- it also actually has emotion! Heh, something that's gone missing in most music lately. I appreciated this song more than I had anticipated. I thank you for uploading this song.

Rottenbeard responds:

Thanks for the review, this song is actually one of my own personal biggest annoyances because it could have been so much better, especially the drumming, but I got lazy and ended up using loops so, especially towards the end, the drumming is very static and repetitive. Ah well. I don't believe in redoing songs, I leave stuff I make as it is and treat it as a learning experience.

At any rate, i'm glad somebody enjoyed it.

Daniel

Complex is right.

I can hear like 3 different guitar parts at any given time, along with who knows how many drums, synths, and what not. I can't imagine why you wouldn't be satisfied with it. This makes me ashamed to have a song that's higher than this in the general rock category. This is infinitely better.

Rottenbeard responds:

I appreciate the kind words. Guess i'm not happy with it because when I was originally sitting down and putting this song together, I guess I had something else sort of set up in my mind on how I wanted this song to sound, but in the end it never really quite met my own expectations. I spent a week or two constantly messing around with it trying to get it to sound how I wanted. I couldn't, got pissed, said screw it, mastered it and then uploaded it haha.

As for my score? Who knows, people do like to zero bomb me for some reason, probably because all my songs start off slow and they aren't patient enough to listen to the whole thing. I'm not too interested in my global score anyways, it's individual reviews that matter to me, such as yours. So thank you :)

Daniel

This is FL?

How did you do this in FL Studio? The instruments are fantastic, the mastering is so precise, and... well, I guess I'm not using the program to it's full potential. The song was awesome. That's all that needs to be said.

One question kept going through my head, though... what instrument is the guitar? Is that a real guitar recording or is it a VST?

Rottenbeard responds:

All of my songs use real guitar John. I play a lot of my instruments live (Bass, Guitar, Drums, Flute at the end ;)).

Keep in mind that what you are hearing is all done with VST's that dont come with FL Studio, you could get these same results in any DAW that supports VST's really. The FL Studio stock instruments are merely "OK", and really only suitable for techno/trance music.

Thanks for the review :)

Holy God

Everything just fits together so perfectly! The chord progressions were fantastic, the instruments were so authentic, and the carry of the melodies kept me listening to this several times on loop. My favorite part, though, were the drums. The cymbals were intense, but not overbearing, the drums were clustered but not crowded, and they matched the rest of the song quite well. When you said it flowed naturally, you did not lie.

Rottenbeard responds:

Thanks for the awesome review man. The drums were actually played live through an e-kit, though they received much tweaking afterward for timing purposes. I'm glad you liked the cymbal/drumming combination as it's my favorite part probably of the entire track. It's what really lends the piece its strength. It's a big improvement over some of my previous work. Moving away from loops to live playing has been a frustrating if worthwhile endeavor for me haha.

Daniel

Nice

The instruments are awesome, the strings are kick ass, and I could actually listen through the whole thing. Nice job!

Sounds...

Artificial. I don't know if that's what you were aiming for, but it's repetitive, the instruments are really obviously fake, and the melody is sort of annoying to be honest. If you choose better instruments, make the melody more dynamic, make the entire song more dynamic, actually, and re-upload it, then we can talk.

MastaSensei responds:

I diden't want it to sound real(if your speaking abouyt the guitar parts). Btw thats my biggest problem is repetitiveness

Hm...

It definitely brings Kingdom Hearts to mind. It's raelly catchy, I like the drums.

Sorrow-316 responds:

Yeah The Drums Are the One item I cant Exactly Do Correctly, Im glad they came out good here! Thanks for Reviewing!

Hm...

If you're gonna upload a track, make it at least close to full length. I will admit, it loops quite well, and it's catchy. You need to add another melody, or a second part to it, though.

AdamZivojinovic responds:

it's a loop. it's supposed to be short

Epic

Surprisingly awesome lol

Drawoh responds:

Well, thanks ^^

Fantastic.

On Newgrounds, there are very few songs that can actually inspire a certain mood into me. I just stumbled upon a prime example. I know what mood that is, exactly, but for some reason, I'm having a lot of trouble deciding the words to use. Hope? Optimism? The intro really brought that out. Great job, I'll be listening to more from you. You were right when you said this had potential.

LK412 responds:

Thanks a lot! Glad it evoked some feelings from you.
